Kindergartners are so excited with the start of our year in art.  The Project they started this year with was called " Initial Design".    The students learned that the  first letters in their first and last names are called initials.  We then discussed how to design two kinds of spaces.  Their initials (done in bubble letters) and the background.  Students learned that the positive space was their bubble letters and negative space was the empty colored part in their art works background.  The students then learned to create a design in their negative space by using pattern and repetition of those patterns.
